About this event
The Klezmatics, a band regarded as a global world music star, is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its artistic career this year and is embarking on a jubilee concert tour. Poland's stop on the tour is Wrocław and the Ethno Jazz Festival. The Grammy Award winners will perform on 12 November 2026 at 20:00 in the Gothic Hall of Stary Klasztor.
The band was formed in 1986 in New York's East Village. Since then, it has been among the leaders of the global revival of klezmer music, blending centuries-old Yiddish tradition with a contemporary sensibility. Over four decades, the musicians have combined klezmer sounds with jazz, gospel, punk, classical music, and Latin and Balkan styles. The Klezmatics are the only klezmer band to win a Grammy, which they received for Best Contemporary World Music Album for *Wonder Wheel: Lyrics by Woody Guthrie*. They have 13 highly acclaimed albums, top positions on the Billboard World Music Chart, and numerous international awards. The musicians have performed at Carnegie Hall, European cathedrals, and rock festivals, among other venues.
For the jubilee, the band is preparing its most ambitious studio project in ten years, the album “The New York Sessions.” Its release is planned for 2026. The record is meant as a tribute to New York's cultural mosaic and to the band's legacy, which transcends genre boundaries. It will feature:
- new interpretations of protest songs,
- premiere tracks,
- multilingual compositions blending Yiddish with Uyghur, Kurdish, Arabic, Armenian, and Ukrainian.
The album will be showcased during the global jubilee tour. The tour began in 2025 in the United States and Canada and will include major concerts in Europe in 2026. According to the announcement, each concert will be an energetic celebration of the band's achievements and the future of klezmer music.
