The concert brings together two traditions that shaped the history of 20th-century music. The repertoire includes blues classics, swing evergreens and arrangements by leading genre figures, including Sammy Nestico.
The sound of the golden age of swing serves as a reference point: the orchestras of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie, known for their sharp rhythms and rich solo passages. The full big band sound and orchestral grandeur give blues standards a fresh perspective while preserving their expressiveness and timelessness.
