Opera da Camera di Roma presents a concert performance of Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Tosca,” performed by Italian soloists accompanied by piano.
The concert is part of a series of chamber opera concerts held this year in palaces and concert halls. Excerpts from “Tosca” will be presented in concert form, focusing on the voices and Puccini’s music. The program includes arias and duets performed by artists who regularly appear on Italian and European opera stages.
The opera is set in Rome in 1800. Singer Floria Tosca loves painter Mario Cavaradossi, but their love is threatened by police chief Baron Scarpia. Cavaradossi helps a fugitive political prisoner, is captured, and sentenced to death. Tosca is offered as the price for his life. She kills Baron Scarpia, but his revenge reaches the lovers even after his death.
The concert performance offers a chance to experience this story in an intimate form.
