Daj Ognia will present the project “Music of an Imaginary Village”. The announcement evokes a wooden tavern in the middle of a frozen Baltic Sea, where melodies drift through the half-darkness, sounding both foreign and familiar. The band describes its music in these words: “We wander between Poland and Scandinavia, playing at village dance halls, wakes and sacred groves”. The musicians say they interweave the musical traditions of North and South, playing old village melodies “in their own anachronistic fashion”. They evoke the moods of an imaginary village: plebeian revelry, echoes of rituals, the lament of a maiden who wishes to die unwed, and the stamping of bare feet on frozen ground.
Daj Ognia's music, often described as “dark folk” or “alternative folk”, hangs between romantic fantasy and harsh reality, and this forms the core of the band's identity. It grows out of longing for a place that never existed. It is not a historical reconstruction but a creative vision full of melancholy and trance, where the raves of bygone times meet everyday mysticism. The sound is built on archaic bowed lyres, traditional singing, bagpipes, drums and bones. On stage there will be, among others, traditional Scandinavian bowed lyres, frame drums and bagpipes. According to the band, this shows that contemporary trance electronic music reaches back to very distant roots.
