“Odwieczne pieśni” – Symphonic Concert as Part of the 25th All-Polish “Gwiazdy Promują” Festival

The symphonic concert “Odwieczne pieśni” will take place on 6 November 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the Filharmonia Dolnośląska (Sala Koncertowa im. Stefana Strahla) in Jelenia Góra. The event is part of the 25th All-Polish “Gwiazdy Promują” Festival. Performers:

• Wojciech Koprowski – violin
• Krzysztof Oprawka – violin
• Marcelina Rucińska – violin
• Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Dolnośląskiej (Filharmonia Dolnośląska Symphony Orchestra)
• Przemysław Neumann – conductor

The programme includes:

• Henryk Wieniawski, Fantasia on Themes from Gounod’s Opera “Faust”, Op. 20
• Henryk Wieniawski, Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor, Op. 22
• Johannes Brahms, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77, Mvt. I
• Mieczysław Karłowicz, symphonic poem “Odwieczne pieśni” (Eternal Songs), Op. 10

The repertoire showcases 19th-century violin literature, from operatic fantasia to symphonic concerto. Wieniawski’s Fantasia transforms motifs from Gounod’s “Faust” into a narrative full of contrasts and ranks among the greatest achievements of Romantic violin technique. Brahms’s Concerto moves away from pure virtuosity toward symphonic grandeur, an equal partnership between soloist and orchestra, and Beethovenian discipline of form. Karłowicz’s symphonic poem reveals the most mature face of late Polish Romanticism and invites reflection on longing, love, death, and the universe as a whole.
