Ethno Jazz Festival invites you on 4 November to the Gothic Hall at Stary Klasztor for a concert by Wojtek Mazolewski, leader of Pink Freud and Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet. The musician will perform solo.
The concert is based on the album “Solo”. It is an intimate, atmospheric, almost cinematic wordless story, told as a love story between the artist and his instrument.
In jazz, the double bass is often underappreciated. Since Duke Ellington's big band, it has usually served as the rhythmic foundation for solos by trumpeters, drummers and pianists. A solo album could therefore be a showcase of virtuosity, but Mazolewski chose a different path: he presents the double bass as a melodic instrument and carefully explores the richness of its sound.
The arrangements on the album are sparing. They feature harp, flute, percussion, subtle electronics and whispers. The music gradually reveals sonic and compositional details, creating a space for focus and reflection while avoiding new-age clichés.
