"Freddie Mercury Rock-Opera Style" is an acoustic concert in which songs by Queen's frontman are arranged for opera singers and a string quartet. The stage features Italian opera artists and a classical string quartet. The performers are musicians from the Italian association Opera da Camera di Roma, and the arrangements are innovative.
The concert draws on 19th-century salon concerts, when classical music was regarded as entertainment. That is why the series takes place in historic halls and palaces across Poland. Alongside Mercury's songs, the program includes excerpts from the music of G. F. Handel, composed for aristocrats and kings. Because of Freddie's heritage, the program also features traditional Indian music arranged for string quartet. The organizers compare Mercury to Farinelli, a star of the eighteenth century. They also point out that Mercury was fascinated by opera singing, as shown by his collaboration with Montserrat Caballé.
The event grows out of the Freddie Mercury Rock-Opera project, which premiered in 2013 at the Słowacki Theatre in Kraków and was staged on stages throughout Europe. In its new form, it is part of a 2025 European concert tour that includes Berlin, Rome, Paris, Milan, Prague, and Vienna, among other cities. This time, Queen's songs will be performed intimately and acoustically, by candlelight. The concert is taking place in Poland for the first time.
