“Pop Opera – From Opera to Musical” is a musical show that combines opera arias, musical numbers and popular music. The organizers describe it as the first “Pop Opera” in the world and the only project of its kind in Poland. Soloists from the Musical and Opera Theatres will perform, including tenor Krzysztof Knapczyk.
The programme includes the following pieces:
- “Nessun Dorma” – Giacomo Puccini
- “I Dreamed a Dream” – from Les Misérables
- “Memory” – from Cats
- “Parla più piano” – theme from The Godfather
- “My Way” – Frank Sinatra (in Polish)
- “Shallow” – from A Star Is Born (in Polish)
- “You Raise Me Up” – Josh Groban (in Polish)
- “Gdybym był bogaczem” (“If I Were a Rich Man”) – from Fiddler on the Roof
- “Time to Say Goodbye” – Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman
- “Libiamo” – from La Traviata
- “Torna a Surriento” – Neapolitan love song
- “Pieśń o Wilji” (“Vilja Song”) – from The Merry Widow
- “Ocalić od zapomnienia” – Marek Grechuta
- “Kołysanka” (“Lullaby”) – an original piece by Krzysztof Knapczyk
The organizers stress that this is a staged show, not just a concert. It features visuals, costumes and lighting. The event is interactive: the audience can influence the repertoire, so every performance is different. The show also includes dance elements and musical surprises.
**Cast:** the stage will feature artists from the Teatr Wielki in Łódź and the Łódź Philharmonic. The BognaBand consists of Bogna Dulińska (piano), Sylwester Masłoń (double bass) and Błażej Kozłowski (drums), and additional instruments sometimes join them. The vocalists are Marta Śpionek, Angelika Gaj and Krzysztof Knapczyk, who is also the creator of the project. Knapczyk is a tenor who has performed on stages in Greece, Germany and the USA. He is a soloist at the Musical Theatre in Łódź and has taken part in the international projects Queen Symfonicznie and A Tribute to Il Divo. In his performances
