Kroke - The Best Of is a retrospective concert featuring the band's most important pieces and sounds, from lyrical, intimate moments to dynamic, rhythmic compositions. The program is built on original music by artists from Kraków, who are celebrated worldwide. It grows out of klezmer tradition, jazz, and inspirations from around the world. Kroke's repertoire will be performed live, in direct contact with the audience. On stage:
Kroke (Kraków in Yiddish) has been made up of three friends since 1992, all graduates of the Kraków Academy of Music. From the start they sought their own language of expression through their engagement with tradition. They began with the energy of Kazimierz and klezmer inspirations, and over time their sound came to include ethnic motifs from around the world, jazz freedom, and a contemporary sensibility. Original improvisation remains the foundation, so each concert has its own course.
After one of Kroke's concerts, Steven Spielberg invited the musicians to Jerusalem for the Survivors Reunion ceremony. Peter Gabriel brought them to Great Britain for the WOMAD festival. The piece “The Secrets of The Life Tree” appeared in David Lynch's film “Inland Empire,” and their collaboration with Nigel Kennedy resulted in the album “East Meets East.” The band has performed and recorded with many outstanding artists and orchestras in Poland and abroad, remaining one of the most recognizable Polish bands on the world stage.
Practical information: smoke effects will be used during the concert.
