“La perra,” directed by Domínga Sotomayor, is a 2026 film co-produced by Brazil and Chile. The screening will take place on 6 November 2026 at 12:00 at Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe (Sala Lalka) in Wrocław.
The story unfolds on a remote island off the coast of Chilean Patagonia, battered by the southern wind. Silvia lives there with her partner and makes a living harvesting seaweed. One day she finds an abandoned female dog and names her Yuri, the name she would have chosen for her dream daughter. Her bond with the untamed animal fills the void left by an unfulfilled desire to be a mother.
The heroine's relationship with the dog becomes the start of an unexpected confrontation, in which love and tenderness collide with anger and painful memories. For years Silvia has tried to escape them. “La perra” is a psychological drama about what we hide beneath the surface of everyday life: about love and rejection, about trying to tame what is elusive, about the need to disappear and the courage to face the past.
The film received the Palm Dog award at Cannes for an exceptional performance by its canine protagonist.
