“Lachtara. Tęsknota” | Polish Cinema Day

“Lachtara. Tęsknota” is a film directed by Sebastian Chondrokostas, made in 2026 in Greece and Poland. Its protagonists are a Greek father and his son from Poland, half-Greek, both at difficult moments in their lives. Years later, they meet in Athens to sell the family flat in Wałbrzych after the death of their former wife and mother.

What binds them is a shared loss, while their temperaments, languages and unspoken grievances divide them. The tension is sometimes defused by unexpected humor, irony and gruff masculine tenderness. Circumstances force them to travel together to Poland in an old Polonez, retracing the escape of Greeks fleeing the civil war in 1949.

On the road through Europe, against the backdrop of contemporary migration, they try to make up for lost time and learn to be together again, sometimes awkwardly, sometimes funnily, more often painfully. For the son, it is a belated lesson in male courage and in the history of Greek emigration to Poland. For the father, it is a lesson in responsibility, humility and closeness, which he previously could not allow himself.
