Lord Of The Dance is a dance show that has been staged on world stages for 30 years. It blends Irish dance, mythological storytelling, and contemporary show. It tells of light and darkness, the battle of good and evil, courage, strength, and passion, all through movement, rhythm, and music. Choreography, music, and set design form one cohesive whole.
The show was created by Michael Flatley. In 1995 he left Riverdance to create his own project. He drew inspiration from Irish legends and myths, tradition, music, and the rhythm of his homeland. Lord Of The Dance premiered in 1996. A year later, it was already playing on stages worldwide, and Flatley received standing ovations in Europe and the USA. Millions of records sold, and that same year the production appeared at the Academy Awards ceremony. Flatley was named three times in the Guinness World Records as the fastest stepper in the world.
The production has an extensive technical setup. The set and equipment travel on six trucks, and assembly takes nearly 10 hours. It combines technology, lighting, projections, and costumes. Over the years, nearly 200 dancers have performed in the show, and more than 50 million spectators have watched it on every continent.
The show is aimed both at fans of Irish dance and at those encountering this style for the first time.
