Trip hop emerged in Bristol as a genre blending elements of hip-hop, electronica, dub and soul. It is characterised by slow tempos, heavy basslines and a melancholic mood. The project grew out of a fascination with this aesthetic and a desire to present it in a new, more expansive context. Live string instruments combine with electronic rhythms and distinctive samples. The creators aim to pay homage to the genre's pioneers while breathing new life into their music.
Among the artists that the programme draws on are Massive Attack, Portishead, Björk, UNKLE, Hooverphonic, Lamb, Moby and others.
Practical information: strobe lights and intense lighting effects may be used during the event. People with epilepsy or sensitivity to strobe lights are advised to take special care or avoid being near the stage.
