Meeting dedicated to the film “My Favorite Cake” directed by Maryam Moghadam and Behtash Sanaeeha (France, Iran, Germany, Sweden, 2024), part of the High/Low Cortisol series. The film tells of the tragedy of life's fragility and the comedy of trying to enjoy it. Its heroes are elderly, lonely people who suddenly meet and, within the walls of their own homes, regain their freedom and youth.
The conversation will touch on issues we face, or will face, in life: the role of older people and how pop culture portrays them. Participants will also consider what the titular cake is and why it is so important.
High/Low Cortisol is a new, original film series in which films are selected by genre, theme and tension, according to two keys:
The series is built on shared conversation about the film watched, since everyone perceives the world differently and has different associations. The meetings aim to draw people out of their own bubble of perception, help them learn something about themselves, and awaken critical thinking. The series is hosted by Marta Kożuchowska, a film scholar and online creator known as O_oezu, who has for many years worked on pop culture, film and commentary on reality.
Practical information: meetings in the series take place once a month.
