Smokie The Legacy Tour is a tour by the band Smokie. According to the Guinness Book of Records, 11 of the group's 14 British hits charted in the 1970s. The band also enjoyed success in Scandinavia, South Africa, Germany and China. They sold out concert tours and earned platinum records in four decades: the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today.
Smokie formed at the end of the 1960s at a school in Yorkshire. They changed names and styles, then signed with Mickie Most's RAK label and hit the charts. Songs that reached the Top 10 and became radio evergreens include:
The band's sound was built on catchy songs and soft-rock harmonies inspired by the United States. It stood out for pairing a gritty, emotional vocal with melodic harmonies. After selling over 30 million records worldwide, the band recorded the album “Wild Horses” in Nashville in 1997. It cost a quarter of a million pounds to produce, and the record earned the group a place on American country radio. The albums “Uncovered” and “Uncovered Too” reached the top 5 in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and achieved double platinum status.
The lineup changed after the departure of Terry Uttley, a founding member of Smokie. He was joined by Pete Lincoln, a former member of The Sweet, and Luke Bullard, son of Martin Bullard, who replaced Terry on bass and backing vocals. The current lineup consists of:
As the saying goes, “there's no smoke without fire”, and Smokie are still running “on all five cylinders”.
