The Mystery of the Singing Birds

“The Mystery of the Singing Birds” is a film made with the traditional technique of cut-out animation, which gives it a handcrafted character. The heroine is 9-year-old Lucie, who travels to spend the holidays with her mother, an archaeologist running a dig. Soon she starts uncovering a history of her own, one that is family-related. The question is whether she will learn the secret of the burned mill.

The story unfolds in the small town of Bectoile, which holds many secrets. Lucie's mother, Caroline, grew up in the area. Together with her friend Pierrot, she is looking into one of these secrets, an abandoned castle. Meanwhile, Caroline's resourceful daughter, Lucie, tries to solve the mystery of her grandfather's disappearance. It is unclear whether this story is connected to a famous fire from years ago and a mysterious healer who cures animals.

To find out, Lucie must work with a teenage neighbor, Yann, listen to the ubiquitous blue tits, and browse archived newspapers. She will remember this summer for the rest of her life.
