“Through the Wall”

“Through the Wall” is a film based on a true story of a love that was born in unlikely circumstances and gave the characters hope, strength, and salvation. The pre-premiere screening will take place on November 11, 2026, at 5:30 PM in the FORUM Hall of the Bolesławiec Culture Centre, as part of the annual Polish Cinema Day celebrations.

In November 1947, Wiesława Pajdak was arrested for her activities in the anti-communist underground and sent to prison on Rakowiecka. A few days later, Jerzy Śmiechowski was placed in the neighboring cell. One night, they began talking through the wall using Morse code. This is how they met and fell in love, and then got engaged, still through the wall.

Seven years later, they married in the prison where they had first met. They were together for 50 years.

The film tells the story of this moving encounter and a love that truly happened.
