Betania Pentecostal Church in Lwówek Śląski

A Neo-Gothic building by the market square in Lwówek Śląski, erected in the 19th century as an Evangelical chapel, today the seat of one of the oldest Pentecostal congregations in Poland.

From Evangelical chapel to Pentecostal congregation

The building dates from the last quarter of the 19th century and originally served as an auxiliary chapel of the Evangelical church in Lwówek Śląski. After the Second World War, a Pentecostal community began meeting there, founded with the involvement of Evangelical refugees from Eastern Poland. The Betania congregation is today one of the oldest congregations of the Pentecostal Church's Western District in the country.

Neo-Gothic architecture

The building has a brick facade with a stepped gable, decorated with a rosette and a stone cross above the entrance. The pointed-arch windows are framed in sandstone, and the entrance portal is decorated with a stained-glass quatrefoil light. A decorative brick frieze runs along the edge of the roof.

Entry in the heritage record

The building is listed in the municipal register of monuments. The heritage conservator has recommended that it be entered into the heritage register kept by the National Heritage Board, but this entry has not yet taken place.
