About Browar Piastowski

The post-industrial complex of the former Browar Piastowski (Brauerei Pfeifferhof) in Wrocław's Ołbin district, now being converted into a residential and service complex.

Browar Piastowski is a post-industrial complex in Wrocław on Jedności Narodowej Street, in the Ołbin district, formerly known as Brauerei Pfeifferhof Carl Scholz.

Origins and 19th-century expansion

The brewery's history dates back to the early 19th century, when it operated on Świdnicka Street. In 1831 the brewery was bought by Ernst Wilhelm Eduard Scholz. In early 1893 Carl Scholz bought land to build a new, larger brewery. The complex was fitted out with equipment advanced for its time, including a Linde refrigeration unit and water treatment devices.

Changes of ownership in the 20th century

In 1910 the Pfeifferhof brewery was bought by the Schultheiss concern. In June 1945 the plant was nationalised, and already by October of the same year, under the new name Browar Piastowski, it resumed production.

End of production and new function

In 2004 the brewery was sold to the Carlsberg concern, which took the plant out of use. Since 2017 the developer Archicom has been building a new residential and service complex on the site of the former brewery. The complex is currently undergoing adaptation for residential and service use.

Heritage status

The complex is a heritage property in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, listed in the heritage register.
