About Church of the Holy Spirit in Bielawa

A brick parish church on ul. Słowiańska in Bielawa, built in 1928-1929.

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Bielawa stands on ul. Słowiańska. It was built in 1928-1929 as a brick single-nave building with one altar.

Construction and early years

The foundation stone was laid on 24 September 1928, and the church was consecrated on 7 October 1929. The building was designed by Emil Verler, a local builder from Bielawa. The church originally had three richly decorated windows reaching from floor to ceiling, designed by the Wrocław painter Haase.

Parish and furnishings

A parish was erected at the church in 1948, and the first parish priest was Father Elsner. The interior changed over the decades: in 1966 a new stone altar and pulpit were installed, in 1969 another altar was consecrated, and in 1970 a new organ. In 1971 the floors, electrical wiring, pews and wall panelling were replaced.

More recent renovations

In 2010 the roof was renovated with new covering, and in 2012 stained-glass windows were installed and the electrical wiring and monitoring system were modernised.
