An active brick Evangelical-Augsburg chapel from 1928 in Stara Huta, the only active Evangelical place of worship in Milicz County.
The church in Stara Huta is a small brick Evangelical-Augsburg chapel, the only active Evangelical place of worship in Milicz County.
After the Treaty of Versailles of 1919 and the drawing of a new Polish-German border in 1921, the local Evangelical community in Stara Huta was cut off from its previous parish church in Sośnie, which ended up on the Polish side of the border. The chapel in Stara Huta was built in 1928 precisely to provide a place of worship for residents separated by the new border.
The chapel has a brick structure on a rectangular plan, covered with a hip roof with a small ridge turret in the middle. Inside, in the side chapel, there is a plaque with the Protestant motto "Scripture alone, Jesus alone, faith alone, grace alone".
The church operates as a branch and belongs to the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Syców and Międzybórz. Along the road to Janisławice, remains of an Evangelical cemetery with the ruins of a chapel have survived, founded in the mid-19th century - a trace of this community's older, pre-border religious life.
