Evangelical School with a Chapel in Posada

Posada
About Evangelical School with a Chapel in Posada

The ruin of a former Evangelical school with a house of prayer in Posada, used until the Second World War, today in very poor structural condition.

In Posada, on a rise at the northern edge of the village, near the monastery at Marienthal, stands the ruin of a former Evangelical school with a house of prayer, known in German sources as Evangelisches Schul- und Bethaus and described in Polish as the Evangelical school with a chapel in Posada. The building is no longer in use and is in very poor structural condition.

School and house of prayer of the Evangelical congregation

The building combined the functions of a school and a house of prayer for the Protestant community of Posada, formerly known by the German name Russdorf. The site was managed by the local Evangelical congregation, for which it served both as a place of learning and of worship.

From use to ruin

The building served the Evangelical congregation until the Second World War. It later passed into private hands, fell out of use and began to fall into ruin. Today it lacks window and door frames, staircases and the roof over its southern section, yet it still stands out in the landscape of Posada. Since 24 April 2013 the ruin has been listed on the heritage register by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Heritage Conservator.
