Fountain in Nowa Ruda

Rynek 1, Nowa Ruda
About Fountain in Nowa Ruda

A fountain from 1909 on the market square in Nowa Ruda with a bronze figural group of St John the Baptist and Jesus in a baptism scene.

The fountain in Nowa Ruda stands on the market square, in the very centre of the town, and dates from 1909.

A baptism scene cast in bronze

The fountain depicts a figural group of St John the Baptist and Jesus in a baptism scene. The figures were cast in bronze at the Lauchmann A.G. foundry in Lauchhammer in Lusatia, and the design was prepared by Professor Albert Werner-Schwarzburg of Wrocław and Professor Fritz Schaper.

A granite plinth with the town's coat of arms

The figures stand on a granite plinth with a balustrade, made by stonemason Chr. Engelbert Eisenberg of Strzelin, who placed the coat of arms of Nowa Ruda on it.

A time capsule from over a hundred years ago

During renovation in 1991, a lead capsule was found inside the fountain containing municipal documents from 1906 and a list of donors who financed the construction of the monument. The documents were copied and placed back inside the capsule.
