A 48-hectare park in the Grabiszyn-Grabiszynek estate in Wrocław, established on the site of a former municipal cemetery.
Grabiszyński Park lies in Wrocław, in the Grabiszyn-Grabiszynek estate, and covers 48 hectares. It is divided into two parts: a northern one, bordering Aleja Hallera, and a southern one, running along the Ślęza river. It is one of the larger green areas in this part of the city, with a lime avenue as its main walking axis.
The site of today's park was previously a municipal cemetery, known as Kommunal Friedhof in Gräbchen. Its first section was established in 1867, the second in 1881, and the third in 1916. The first section of the cemetery was destroyed in 1945 and finally liquidated in 1963. The name Grabiszyński Park was officially given by resolution no. LXXI/454/93 of the Wrocław City Council of 9 October 1993, the same resolution that organised the names of parks and wooded areas in the city.
The tree cover is dominated by common hornbeam, pedunculate oak, small-leaved lime and Norway maple. The understorey includes common hazel and dogwood, while the ground layer consists of wood avens, lungwort, violets and wood anemone. This composition gives the park a character close to that of a natural deciduous forest, rather than just landscaped urban greenery.
The main walking axis is the lime avenue. Besides it, the park has children's playgrounds, an outdoor gym and a fitness trail, as well as a mini-golf course. There are also spacious meadows, glacial boulders and cycling routes crossing both parts of the park. A Monument to Shared Memory stands in the park.
The park is cared for by the Municipal Green Spaces Authority, which reports to the Department of Architecture and Development of the Wrocław City Office.
