A green square in the Huby district, a trace of the former Goetheplatz square with a pre-war fountain and surviving old trees.
The green square on Przestrzenna Street lies in Wrocław's Huby district, on the site of the former Goetheplatz square. Today the square has no separate name of its own and is associated with Przestrzenna Street, although historically it formed the central part of a larger urban layout.
The green square was laid out in 1914 as part of Goetheplatz, surrounded by the roadways of Przestrzenna, Tomaszowska and Gajowa streets and the street-front tenement buildings of the Huby district. A pre-war fountain and old trees from that period have survived in the square to this day.
Some of the pre-war tenements along these streets survived the siege of Wrocław in 1945; the rest of the surrounding buildings are post-war structures from the Huby housing estate and later infill development.
The square is listed in the municipal register of monuments and is subject to heritage protection, covering both the surviving old trees and the pre-war fountain.
