A peak in the Golden Mountains above Mąkolno, in an area of former gold and arsenic mining.
Haniak is a peak in the Golden Mountains, in the Eastern Sudetes, rising to 536 metres above sea level above the village of Mąkolno in Ząbkowice County.
The mountain lies within the Złoty Stok municipality, next to provincial road no. 390. To the east it borders a valley called the Kłodzko Gorge, and to the north-west of the peak lies the small settlement of Mąkolno Hanyszów. Haniak's relative height above the surrounding terrain is 289 metres.
The land around Haniak belonged to a Cistercian abbey from about 1248. The eastern slopes of the mountain have several centuries of mining history behind them: for seven centuries, starting in the 13th century, gold and arsenic were extracted here, totalling several tonnes of gold and thousands of tonnes of arsenic.
The Polish name Haniak comes from the German Hannig, a diminutive of the name Johannes, typical of Lower Silesian place-name formation.
