About Jaworek

A peak 781 metres above sea level in the Owl Mountains between Włodarz and Moszna, built of Owl Mountains gneisses and covered by spruce-beech forest.

Jaworek is a peak 781 metres above sea level in the Owl Mountains, lying between Włodarz and Moszna, west of Walim. It has a dome-like shape with steep slopes and a flat, clearly outlined summit.

Geology and vegetation

The peak is built of Precambrian gneisses, known to geologists as Owl Mountains gneisses. The summit and slopes are entirely covered by spruce-beech forest of the lower montane zone.

Region and history

Jaworek lies within the Owl Mountains Landscape Park, in an area that during the Second World War was kept a Third Reich secret because of the construction of the Riese military complex. Nearby, less than two kilometres away, is the Riese Włodarz underground complex.

Access

Two marked trails run through the Jaworek area: a blue trail (E3) and a red trail, the Main Sudetes Trail. The peak borders Włodarz, and within a few kilometres lie Wielka Sowa and Osówka.

Practical information

  • Jaworek lies in the Owl Mountains, in the municipality of Głuszyca, in Wałbrzych County.
  • Access by trail: the blue trail (E3) or the red trail (Main Sudetes Trail).
  • Sturdy trekking shoes are worth wearing - the approach runs through forest on steeper sections of the slope.
