About Kopa (Karkonosze)

A peak in the Karkonosze Mountains (around 1,377 m) on the route to Śnieżka, with a chairlift and the Karpacz Ski Arena ski complex.

Kopa, also known as Czarna Kopa or Mała Kopa, is a peak in the Karkonosze Mountains (Giant Mountains) at around 1,377-1,378 metres above sea level. It lies at the eastern end of the Śląski Grzbiet (Silesian Ridge) and forms a small elevation on the Równia pod Śnieżką plateau.

Granite underfoot

Kopa is built of Karkonosze granite, the same rock that forms most of the highest parts of the Karkonosze range.

Summit of a ski complex

Kopa is the culminating point of the Karpacz Ski Arena ski complex, where the downhill runs begin. The summit can be reached from Karpacz by the "Zbyszek" chairlift, launched in 2018 to replace an older one that had operated since 1959. The ride takes about 7 minutes.

The easiest route to Śnieżka

From Kopa runs the easiest route to Śnieżka on the Polish side, 2.5 kilometres away, which takes about an hour to reach on foot. The black trail leads from Karpacz through Biały Jar to Przełęcz pod Śnieżką (the pass below Śnieżka).

Practical information

  • The simplest way to reach the summit is the "Zbyszek" chairlift from Karpacz, with a ride of about 7 minutes.
  • From the summit you can continue on foot to Śnieżka along the black trail through Biały Jar.
  • In the winter season Kopa operates as part of the Karpacz Ski Arena ski complex, so it is worth checking current conditions and the chairlift's operating hours before setting off.
