A palace in Krzelów from the 1730s, surrounded by a historic landscape park, today housing a primary school.
Krzelów Palace, erected in the 1730s, is one of the most recognisable buildings in this village in Wołów County - and one of the few in the area still serving its community, as it today houses a primary school.
The estate of Krzelów Górny and Krzelów Dolny belonged to the von Gersdorf family, from whom it was bought by von Brown, recorded as the owner of the village in 1787. In 1836 the estate was acquired by the heirs of Ulrika Louisa, née Koppern - it was probably then that the palace and its park were built. According to address books from 1876 the owner was Gustaw Gohle, and from 1905 until the Second World War the estate belonged to Paul Kahert.
The building has two storeys with basements, a simple form close to a rectangular block, and a distinctive turret added on the west side. It is covered by a low hipped roof. The facade faces north, and the farmyard is surrounded by outbuildings. The palace has been classed as a class 1 historic monument and placed under conservation protection - the register entry dates from 22 December 1980.
Laid out around the mid-19th century, the park lies on the western side of the palace, not far from the River Jezierzyca, and is entered in the heritage register. It contains, among other trees, oaks, horse chestnuts, plane trees, a silver spruce and a Fraser fir. Most of the trees are around 120 years old, but old-growth stands have survived in the southern part - one of the oaks is around 350 years old, and several more are around 200 years old.
