A historic castle on the Nysa Mała, built by Henryk z Lipy, with a preserved layout of courtyards and a moat.
Lipa Castle is a historic castle in the village of Lipa near Bolków, situated on the bank of the Nysa Mała at an elevation of 375 m above sea level.
According to tradition, the first owner of the castle was Henryk z Lipy, who is said to have built the stronghold around 1309, and the oldest building phase is dated to the first half of the 14th century. In later periods the castle belonged in turn to the Schirner, Zedlitz and Reibnitz families. The heritage register dates the building to the 13th century, an earlier date than Wikipedia gives; out of caution, its exact age should be treated as uncertain.
The stronghold consisted of a residential tower surrounded by a courtyard and outbuildings. From the south-east side an entrance led to the kitchen building, and on the west side the grounds widened into a larger courtyard enclosed by defensive walls and the wall of a former granary. The castle was surrounded by a dry moat, today partly filled in.
Nearby lie Bolków Castle, Świny Castle and the Wąwóz Lipa nature reserve.
