About Lubin Mine

An active underground KGHM copper mine on the north side of Lubin, closed to visitors.

OZG Lubin, or the Lubin Mining Plant, is an underground copper mine on the north side of Lubin, one of the mining divisions of KGHM Polska Miedź.

Construction and start-up

Construction of the mine began on 1 January 1960. The first tonne of copper ore was extracted on 20 March 1963.

Scale of extraction

The mine extracts around 7 million tonnes a year of polymetallic ore containing copper, silver, nickel, cobalt and molybdenum. The plant's mining area covers 158 square kilometres.

Practical information

  • Location: Szklary Górne, Lubin County
  • It is an active KGHM Polska Miedź industrial facility, not a tourist site
  • Sources make no mention of any possibility of sightseeing or any form of public access - there is no basis for treating the mine as a place open to visitors
