A Baroque Marian column from 1712 by the entrance to the municipal cemetery on Loretańska Street in Nowa Ruda, with a Latin chronogram inscription.
The Marian Column in Nowa Ruda stands on Loretańska Street, right by the entrance to the municipal cemetery on that side. It is a Baroque column erected in 1712 and consecrated on 12 May 1713.
The plinth of the column bears a Latin inscription dedicated to the Mother of God, composed as a chronogram, that is, an inscription in which selected letters, read as Roman numerals, indicate the year of construction and consecration. In the 18th century services and masses were held at the column, which made it a place of religious gatherings at the time, not just a landscape feature.
The column stands on the grounds of the cemetery in Nowa Ruda, by the entrance from Loretańska Street. In the area it is also worth visiting the Mining Museum in Nowa Ruda or heading to St Anne's Hill for a view over the surroundings.
