The sculpture Węzełek (Memory Fountain) by Maciej Szańkowski, referring to the displacement of Wrocław's inhabitants, without a fixed location since 2022.
Węzełek, also known as the Memory Fountain, is a sculpture by Maciej Szańkowski, which for years stood in front of the Galeria na Czystej shopping centre in Wrocław. The centre was demolished in 2022, and the fountain's previous surroundings disappeared along with it - the sculpture's new location was still being decided, so it is worth checking where it currently stands before visiting.
The composition consists of a węzełek, that is a bundle, cast in bronze, keys submerged in water, and the inscription PANTA RHEI. These elements refer to the history of the displacement of Wrocław's inhabitants - the motif of the bundle and keys alludes to the belongings people took with them when leaving their former homes after the Second World War.
The sculpture was originally proposed for Szczecin, but it ultimately ended up in Wrocław's public space. After the demolition of Galeria na Czystej in 2022, the fountain lost its former place, and its further fate and new location remained undecided.
