Palace in Czerna

Zamkowa 1, Czerna
About Palace in Czerna

A 16th-century Renaissance palace in Czerna near Głogów, listed in the heritage register together with the park, manor house and granary.

The palace in Czerna stands on Zamkowa Street in the village of Czerna, in the municipality of Żukowice, in Głogów County, on the left bank of the Oder (Odra). It is also sometimes called a castle, and the village's German name was Schloss Klein Tschirne.

History of the building

Dating in the heritage register points to the 16th century - construction began in 1558 by Wolfgang Glaubitz for his son Christoph, on the site of an estate that had belonged to the Glaubitz family since 1485. The building has retained elements of its Renaissance architecture, supplemented in the 19th century. Later owners included the von Stosch family (from 1725) and, in the 19th century, the von zu Pückler and von Buddenbrock families.

Portal and coats of arms

A stone portal survives above the entrance, bearing the coats of arms of the families associated with the palace, including the "von Stosch" and "von Landskron" shields dated 1725 and the "von Buddenbrock" armorial cartouche from 1833. The frieze above the entrance is decorated with eight family coats of arms.

Heritage protection

The palace is listed in the register of immovable heritage sites of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, under numbers 156 from 14 March 1961 and A/2833/156 from 4 August 2010. The listing covers the entire palace complex together with the English-style park, the 19th-century manor house and the granary. The building was built of brick.
