A bridge over the Oder in Wrocław from 1959, built on the site of the Lessing Bridge, destroyed in 1945.
Peace Bridge (Most Pokoju) is a road and tram bridge over the main course of the Oder in Wrocław, connecting the Old Town with the Oławskie Suburb.
Before 1808 a wooden crossing stood here, connecting the city's timber yard with the Piaskowe Suburb. In 1875 a steel truss bridge designed by Alexander Kaumann was built here, named after Gotthold Ephraim Lessing: the Lessing Bridge (Lessingbrücke). It was severely damaged in 1945 during the siege of Festung Breslau.
The new bridge was built between 1954 and 1959 to a design by Jan Kmita. It was put into use in 1959, initially under the name Voivodeship Bridge. It received its current name, Most Pokoju (Peace Bridge), in 1966.
The bridge has three spans, is made of prestressed concrete in a Gerber system, and is 125.3 metres long and 25.7 metres wide overall. It has two carriageways of 6.4 metres each, two pavements of 3.75 metres each, and a double-track tram line. A general overhaul was carried out in 2003, during which the layout of the tram tracks was changed.
