About Piasek Footbridge

A pedestrian footbridge from 2002 over the Maria Mill Canal, connecting Piasek Island with Słodowa Island in the centre of Wrocław.

Piasek Footbridge is a pedestrian crossing over the Maria Mill Canal, connecting Piasek Island with Słodowa Island in the very centre of Wrocław.

Structure and dimensions

The footbridge was built in 2002. Its load-bearing part consists of three spans made of welded steel box-section girders, while the approaches on both sides, i.e. the ramps and stairs, were built as reinforced concrete structures. The total length of the crossing is 109.28 metres, and its width is 3.20 metres.

Two islands on the Oder

Piasek Island and Słodowa Island, which the footbridge connects, lie on the Oder right next to Ostrów Tumski, next to the Tumski Bridge. Since the crossing is pedestrian only, no car or bicycle traffic in the sense of a public road runs over it, and a walk between the islands takes at most a few minutes.
