About Płóczki Dolne Tower House

A residential knight's tower from the 13th century in Płóczki Dolne, today a private residential building, visible only from outside.

Płóczki Dolne Tower House is a residential knight's tower from the 13th century, also called a manor house or small palace, standing at the address Płóczki Dolne 51 in Lwówek County.

Medieval origins

The tower was built at the end of the 13th century as a toll-collection point on the medieval trade route Via Regia. In the 14th century the Raussendorf family rebuilt it, adding Gothic defensive elements: a wooden palisade and a moat.

Rebuilding after the Hussite Wars

After the Hussite Wars, fought between 1419 and 1434, Hannos Renker completed the reconstruction in 1448, resulting in the residential tower preserved to this day. In the 18th century the roof was changed to a mansard roof and the defensive elements were removed, and in the 19th century a two-storey annexe was added on the western side.

Post-war fate

After the Second World War the building housed a primary school. Today the tower house is used residentially - it contains several flats. The property is not listed in the register of immovable heritage monuments.
