About Polkowice-Sieroszowice Mine

An active KGHM Polska Miedź mining plant near Polkowice, one of the three copper mines currently working in Poland.

ZG Polkowice-Sieroszowice is an active KGHM Polska Miedź mining plant, one of the three copper mines currently working in Poland. It lies in the area around Polkowice and Sieroszowice and operates day to day, extracting ore from underground.

Two mines, one plant

The current plant was created in 1996 from the merger of two separate mines. The Polkowice mine started up in 1968, and the Sieroszowice mine began operating in 1980. Since the merger, both parts have worked as a single mining organism, managed by KGHM Polska Miedź.

Scale of extraction

The plant exploits deposits in several mining areas: Gaworzyce, Głogów Głęboki-Przemysłowy, Polkowice, Radwanice Wschód and Sieroszowice. Ore is extracted through a network of eleven ventilation shafts, three of which also serve an extraction function. Besides copper and silver ore, the plant also mines salt.

Is it a tourist attraction

Available sources do not confirm that the plant is open to sightseeing by tourists. It is an active KGHM industrial facility, not a museum or a tourist route, so before planning a visit it is worth checking this directly with KGHM Polska Miedź.

Nearby

Nearby, the sister plant Rudna Mining Plant also operates. Families looking for attractions in this area will find the more tourist-oriented Aqua Hotel closer by.
