A green square in the Powstańców Śląskich estate in Wrocław, called plac Jakuba Szeli until 2014, today Skwer Ptasi Zagajnik.
The place known today as Skwer Ptasi Zagajnik appeared on maps of Wrocław for decades as plac Jakuba Szeli. It lies in the Powstańców Śląskich estate, in the triangle bounded by Zaporoska, Lubuska and Skwierzyńska streets: a modest, intimate green space amid dense residential development.
Before the war the square bore the German name Hohenzollernplatz. From 1948 to 2014 it functioned as plac Jakuba Szeli, and in October 2015 the City Council adopted the present name, Skwer Ptasi Zagajnik, proposed by one of Wrocław's residents.
The triangular square was created at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. During the siege of Wrocław in 1945, all the buildings that then stood around it were destroyed. During the post-war reconstruction, the character of this part of the estate was changed: a residential block was built in the middle of the former square at the address Skwierzyńska 17-19, which altered the original layout of the space.
