Red Cave

Zachełmie
About Red Cave

An artificial cave in the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains) near the summit of Rudzianka in Zachełmie, formed after 19th-century pegmatite mining.

Red Cave (Czerwona Jaskinia), also called Czerwona Jama, is an artificial cave in the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains), near the summit of Rudzianka in Zachełmie. It is not a natural formation but a remnant of former mining activity.

Origin

The cave was formed in the 19th century, after pegmatite deposits found here were extracted. The mining work left behind an underground void, which is now visited as a natural curiosity.

Size

The cave's interior is 3 metres high and reaches 6 metres in depth - a small post-mining excavation rather than an extensive system of corridors.
