About Ręszów Palace

A three-wing palace rebuilt in 1787 by the von Unruh family on the site of a former manor of the von Nostitz family, in the village of Ręszów near Ścinawa.

Ręszów Palace stands in the central part of the village, on the southern side of the road, in the village of Ręszów in the Ścinawa municipality, in Lubin County. It is a three-wing building that gained its present form in 1787, on the site of an earlier manor of the von Nostitz family.

From manor to palace

The oldest part of the complex is the late-Renaissance eastern wing, originally a manor house, probably built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. By the end of the 17th century the estate was among the notable residences in the region. Ownership changed hands several times: in 1715 the estate was acquired by the von Hochberg family, and in 1759 by the von Unruh family. It was Georg Sigismund von Unruh who carried out a thorough rebuilding in 1787, giving the palace its present form, and he remained its owner until 1794.

An episode from the Thirty Years' War

During the Thirty Years' War, the Swedish king Gustavus II Adolphus stayed at the residence for a time.

20th-century owners

The building was modernised in 1912, and further works were carried out in the 1930s, when the estate belonged to Heinrich Oswald von Sprenger. A cartouche with his coat of arms has survived above the main entrance.

Architecture

The palace has a three-wing layout, on a plan close to a horseshoe. The central part is covered with a tall, steep roof, and the side wings with steep four-pitched roofs. In front of the main façade stands a single-storey brick portico with a terrace, topped with a two-column Corinthian portico and a triangular pediment. On the garden side the palace has a spacious terrace, and there is a round pond on the forecourt in front of the building.

Park and farm buildings

The eastern part of the complex is occupied by a landscape park from the late 18th century. The former service road was lined with an avenue of horse chestnut trees at the end of the 19th century. The complex also includes two groups of farmstead buildings.

Nearby

In Ścinawa, a few kilometres away, stands the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. In the same area it is also worth seeing Dłużyce Palace.
