Šerlich

Sedloňov
About Šerlich

A border peak of the Orlickie Mountains (1,025 m above sea level), lying on the Czech side of the border above Polish Zieleniec.

Šerlich is a border peak on the main ridge of the Orlickie Mountains in the Central Sudetes, at 1,025 m above sea level. The summit itself lies on the Czech side of the border, in the Sedloňov municipality, although its slopes on the Zieleniec side already belong to Poland.

Border and watershed

The ridge on which the peak lies forms a section of the European watershed between the drainage basins of the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The Polish slopes above Zieleniec are partly covered by spruce plantations and partly occupied by ski areas, with numerous peat bogs and wet meadows covered by peatland vegetation. Similar peatland habitats are protected by the nearby Torfowisko pod Zieleńcem Nature Reserve.

Ski lifts and a mountain hut on the Czech side

On the eastern and north-eastern slopes, already on the Czech side of the border, three ski lifts operate. About 600 m south of the summit stands the Czech mountain hut Masarykova chata.

Planned observation tower

Next to the upper station of the Šerlich ski lift, a thirty-metre observation tower is planned, in the form of a path leading to a viewing platform shaped like a flying saucer. The route to the top of the tower is meant to be accessible to wheelchair users and to pass through six educational stops devoted to nature conservation.

Practical information

  • The peak lies on the Polish-Czech border, on the Czech side, in the Sedloňov municipality, closest to the Polish village of Zieleniec.
  • It is worth checking the access route, trails and current markings before setting out, on both sides of the border.
  • A common starting point on the Polish side is the Hotel Zieleniec.
  • In winter, three ski lifts operate on the slopes on the Czech side.
