A transport junction in Oławskie Przedmieście in Wrocław, with a flyover and underpasses, neighbouring Słowacki Park.
Społeczny Square lies within the Old Town in Wrocław, in the Oławskie Przedmieście area. It is above all an important transport junction, through which national road No. 98 runs, and earlier national road No. 8 and European route E67 ran through it.
The site was originally built up with residential tenement houses from the early 20th century, destroyed during the siege of the city in 1945. In the 1970s the remains were demolished. Earlier, in 1964 and 1969, architectural competitions were held for the development of the square, but none of the award-winning designs was ever carried out.
As a transport junction, the square was equipped with engineering structures: road flyovers and pedestrian underpasses. Among others, an eastern flyover 226 metres long was built, along with three underpasses for pedestrians and cyclists. The western flyover was demolished in 2019.
To the north, the square borders Juliusz Słowacki Park together with the National Museum, to the east historic tenement houses on Mazowiecka Street, and to the south the mouth of the Oława River into the Oder and the Church of St Maurice.
