St John the Baptist Square

Wrocław
About St John the Baptist Square

A small square on Ostrów Tumski in Wrocław, on ulica Kanonia, next to the cathedral.

St John the Baptist Square is a small square on Wrocław's Ostrów Tumski, on ulica Kanonia. It lies in the very heart of the oldest, island part of the city, among the buildings of the former cathedral settlement.

A place on Ostrów Tumski

Ostrów Tumski is the oldest part of Wrocław, clustered around the cathedral and surrounded by stone lanes. The square covers a small area on ulica Kanonia, right next to the buildings of this district, so its character is shaped above all by its surroundings: the church-dominated, intimate architecture of Ostrów Tumski.

Nearby

A few dozen metres away stands the Archikatedra św. Jana Chrzciciela, patron of both the square and the whole district. Nearby is also the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław, and a walk across the Most Tumski leads towards the National Museum and further to the Market Square.
