Strzegomski Bridge

Wrocław
About Strzegomski Bridge

A road bridge from 1945 over the Ślęza on ulica Strzegomska in Wrocław, in the form of two separate bridges since 2011.

Strzegomski Bridge carries ulica Strzegomska over the Ślęza, on the boundary between the Nowy Dwór and Muchobór Wielki estates in Wrocław. Unlike the nearby bridge on ulica Ostrowskiego, this is a purely post-war crossing, without medieval origins, but with precisely known technical parameters.

Built in 1945

The bridge was built in 1945 as a single-span, reinforced concrete structure with a beam load-bearing system. It is 20.23 metres long and 14.9 metres wide in total, of which 6.7 metres is roadway and 3.7 metres combined is pavement on both sides. The surface was laid as bituminous.

Origin of the name

The pre-war, German name of the bridge was Lohebrücke, literally the bridge over the Ślęza - a term used for all the crossings of this river in Wrocław at the time, when it was called the Lohe.

Rebuilt into two bridges

Between 2009 and 2011 ulica Strzegomska was rebuilt on the section from the Śródmiejska Ring Road to the roundabout at Mińska and Graniczna streets, turning a single two-lane roadway into two roadways with four lanes combined. As part of this investment the original bridge was replaced with a pair of bridges, one for each direction of traffic.
