A 19th-century synagogue on Poprzeczna Street in Kowary, vandalised during the war, today a warehouse building.
The synagogue in Kowary stands on Poprzeczna Street. It was built in the 19th century for the local Jewish community. During the Second World War the Nazis vandalised the building, and its former religious function was never restored; today it houses a warehouse.
The building was constructed in the 19th century as a place of prayer for the Jewish community of Kowary. During the Second World War it was vandalised by the Nazis.
It is a brick building built on a rectangular plan. Part of the exterior decoration has survived to this day, including several windows with semicircular tops, the last visible traces of its former sacred function.
The building of the former synagogue today serves as a warehouse. It is not a building adapted for visiting, and its significance is primarily historical, as a reminder of the now-vanished Jewish community of Kowary.
