Synagogue in Wałbrzych (ul. Mickiewicza 18)

Wałbrzych
About Synagogue in Wałbrzych (ul. Mickiewicza 18)

A former communal Jewish house of prayer set up after 1968 in a private flat at Mickiewicza 18; services are now held on ul. Parkowa.

At ul. Mickiewicza 18 in Wałbrzych, a communal house of prayer operated for decades - a modest synagogue set up in a private flat. Today the Jewish community uses a different address, and the building at Mickiewicza 18 no longer serves this function.

A house of prayer in a flat

The place of prayer was established after 1968, at a time when the Jewish community in Wałbrzych had shrunk considerably. It was set up in an ordinary flat, not far from the seat of the Jewish community and the site where the town's former main synagogue had stood. No markings indicating its religious function were deliberately placed on the building.

Current situation

Services on every Sabbath and Jewish holiday are now held at a different address, on ul. Parkowa. The sources do not state exactly when the move took place, nor what the building at Mickiewicza 18 is used for today.
