Upper Black Adit

Złoty Stok
About Upper Black Adit

The Black Adit, also known as the Corridor of Death, is one of two main galleries on the visitor route of the Gold Mine in Złoty Stok, with an underground waterfall.

The Black Adit is one of two main galleries open for visitors as part of the tour of the Gold Mine in Złoty Stok, alongside the Gertrude Adit.

Place in the visitor route

The entrance to the route is located in the upper part of the Golden Gorge. It is the Black Adit that is sometimes called the Corridor of Death, and together with the Gertrude Adit it forms the mine's main, guided tourist route, over half a kilometre long.

Underground waterfall

The route features the only underground waterfall in Poland, one of the main attractions of the entire Gold Mine. The exact height of the water's fall varies depending on the source, so it is better to see it on site than to rely on a single figure.

History of mining

Miners extracted gold in this area as early as the Middle Ages, and by the mid-17th century also arsenic. Traces of various extraction techniques used over the centuries have survived in the galleries.

Practical information

  • Location: the upper part of the Golden Gorge, Złoty Stok
  • The Black Adit is not a separate visiting point - it forms part of the route of the Gold Mine in Złoty Stok, with which it shares the entrance and ticket
  • It is worth checking guided entry times on site in advance, as the route is run in groups
