About Wieżyca

A peak in the Mount Ślęża massif with an observation tower from the early 20th century, reachable by a yellow trail from Sobótka.

Wieżyca is a peak 415 metres above sea level, forming a distinct culmination in the short northern arm of the Mount Ślęża massif, in the Sobótka municipality.

Geology

Wieżyca is made of amphibolites, dark green rocks with a wide variation in crystal size.

Vegetation

The northern slope is covered with beech-lime forest with lily of the valley in the undergrowth. On the southern slope grow old, gnarled oaks, characteristic of a light-filled oak grove.

Observation tower

On the summit stands a stone observation tower, built of fine-grained granite between 1905 and 1907, 15 metres high, known as the Bismarck Tower. It serves as a viewpoint.

A yellow hiking trail runs over the summit, connecting Świdnica via the Tąpadła Pass, Mount Ślęża and Wieżyca with Sobótka. After the Second World War the hill was known for a time as Góra Kościuszki (Kościuszko Hill).
