About Zwierzyniecka Footbridge

A footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists over the Oder from 1976, by the Great Island and the Wrocław Zoo.

Zwierzyniecka Footbridge is a crossing for pedestrians and cyclists over the Oder in Wrocław, built in 1976 (according to other data, in 1975) to a design by M. Wróblewicz, on the site of a former ferry crossing that operated until the 1960s.

Construction

The footbridge has a five-span steel suspension structure, suspended in its central section, where the load-bearing plate girders are hung on steel cables. It is supported by two abutments and four piers, and the deck is suspended from two pylons set on the piers on either side of the Oder. The footbridge is 232.4 m long and 4 m wide, and the deck surface is bituminous.

Over the Oder, by the Great Island

The right bank of the footbridge is the Great Island, along which runs the Szczytnicko-Bartoszowicka Dyke, leading towards the Wrocław Zoo. The left bank is the area of the Siedlec-Rakowiec estate, where Na Grobli Street runs alongside the footbridge.

Practical information

  • The footbridge is open to pedestrians and cyclists.
  • On the right bank of the Oder, beyond the Great Island, it is neighboured by Afrykarium.
  • The left bank lies within the Siedlec-Rakowiec estate, on Na Grobli Street.
